Mumbai, May 20, 2024 – Dr. Rajendra Tatu Nanavare, a distinguished Chest Physician with an illustrious career spanning 35 years, has been awarded the prestigious World Record Gold Medal Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to the medical field, particularly in the treatment and management of tuberculosis (TB) and other respiratory diseases.
Dr. Nanavare's impressive credentials include an MBBS, TDD, DETRD, AFIH, FCCP, DHA, DPH, BCBR, and the Manage TB (ICMR) certification. His expertise has been honed through decades of dedicated service at Asia's largest infectious disease TB hospital, where he has played a pivotal role in the treatment of TB, Asthma, COPD, Pneumonia, and Covid-19. As the former Medical Superintendent of Mumbai's Group of TB Hospitals and a respected faculty member at CPS Parel Mumbai, Dr. Nanavare has been instrumental in shaping the future of respiratory medicine.
As a faculty member specializing in Chest and TB, Tropical Medicine since 2011, he is dedicated over a decade to educating and mentoring postgraduate students in these critical areas of medicine. His tenure has been marked by a commitment to advancing the understanding and treatment of respiratory and tropical diseases through both theoretical instruction and practical, hands-on clinical training. He has consistently stayed abreast of the latest developments in these fields, integrating cutting-edge research and innovative treatment methodologies into the curriculum. This has ensured that his students are not only well-versed in current medical practices but are also equipped to contribute meaningfully to the ongoing fight against prevalent and emerging diseases. His role has extended beyond the classroom, involving active participation in clinical trials, public health initiatives, and collaborative research projects, all aimed at improving patient outcomes and advancing medical knowledge in Chest and TB, as well as Tropical Medicine.
An editor of the Indian Journal of TB, Dr. Nanavare has been at the forefront of TB research and treatment innovations, including his significant involvement in the National Bedaquiline pilot project. His scholarly contributions include more than 20 international research papers, and his expertise has been sought after in over 30 National Doordarshan programs.
Throughout his career, Dr. Nanavare has received numerous accolades, reflecting his outstanding contributions to medicine and public health. Notable honors include the 2022 IMA HQs Hon. Professor award, the 2023 IMA Best Academician award, the "Bharat Bhushan" award by the Government of India, the Excellent Doctor 2023-24 award in Goa, and an honorary doctorate from the Gandhi Peace Foundation Nepal. His tireless efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic earned him the title of Covid-19 warrior in 2021.
